Hal Clark “Granny” Granberry was born on January 4th 1898 in Meridian, Mississippi to Simeon G. Granberry and Lucy Granberry. Laura, James Kimbrough, and Elizabeth N. Granberry were his siblings: all three to nine years older than him.[1] The family’s address at the time was 819 29th Avenue, Meridian, MS.[2] His uncle, Hal J. Granberry, and his uncle's servant, Delia Granberry, both lived in the same house in 1900. By 1910, his eldest sister, Laura, married Ashley C. Snow and their family also lived in the house[3]. By the age of 13, Granberry was working as a newsboy in Meridian, MS.
